User Rules and Regulations and Reproductions

Access to the collections is governed by the User Rules and Regulations, and is, as a principle, unrestricted and free of charge. There may however be legal and contractual restrictions. Documents which are not catalogued or at risk from a conservation point of view are not accessible. Manuscripts and archive documents are unique and irreplaceable. They must therefore be handled with due care. The instructions given by the Reading Room staff must be followed at all times.

Taking of photographs
Those documents which are publicly accessible and safe in terms of conservation may be photographed with the prior consent of the Reading Room staff, provided doing so does not infringe any third-party rights.

 Reproduction orders with costs
The Burgerbibliothek of Berne will be happy to reproduce individual pages or have complete manuscripts digitised on your behalf. For further information please consult the Service Offer and Costs leaflet.

Reproductions can be ordered via our web form.
