Digital copies
Do you need a digital reproduction of a specific document, volume or image? Here we will show you how to download already digitised units of description and explain when you can take your own photographs or how you can order images for a fee.

01 Downloading digital copies directly from the catalogue free of charge
- Go to the detail view of the desired entry in the archives catalogue (click on the title).
- In the detail view, click on the preview (with watermark and in lower resolution due to legal restrictions) and save the file to your own computer by right clicking on the image.
- If there is a link to an image file in the section «Files» of the detail view: open the image in a separate window by clicking and save it to your own computer by right clicking on the image (without watermark and in higher resolution).

02 Downloading digital copies via the catalogue free of charge (DFG-Viewer/e-codices)
- Go to the detail view of the desired entry in the archives catalogue (click on the title).
- The volume is published in the DFG Viewer:
- In the detail view of the individual volume, in the field «Link», click on the link to the publication in the DFG-Viewer, taking account of requirements in the «Conditions of access and use» section.
- To download, select the desired image and click on the download icon in the white area in the top left corner. On the newly opened page, right click to save the image.
- The volume is published on the e-codices external platform:
- In the detail view of the individual volume, in field «Digitalisat», click on the link to the publication on the e-codices platform.
- To download, select the desired image and click on the download icon in the top right corner.
- In the newly opened window, select the required resolution and download the image.
Please take note of the terms of use for e-codices in the same window!

03 Taking your own photographs
- Order the desired unit of description for viewing in the reading room.
- Check with the reading room staff as to whether you may take photographs.
- Photograph the desired pages without using a flash, provided that this does not infringe any third-party rights and the documents are publicly accessible and safe in terms of conservation (see our User Rules and Regulations).

04 Ordering digital copies for a fee
If you are unable to come to the reading room in person and/or prefer to order a digital copy (standard: TIFF / 300 ppi) for a fee, or if you require a higher resolution than that published in the catalogue, please place your order directly by using the order form.
